Land and Configuration of Sibylline Mountains National Park

Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini - Norcia UmbriaThe dozens of peaks exceeding heights of 2,000 m (about 6,562 ft) are headed by Mount Vettore (2,476 m – 8,123 ft), Mount Sibylla (2,175 m), Mount Redentore (2,448 m), Mount Priora (2,332 m), and Mount Argentella (2,200 m).

Going down from the main axis of the Apennine backbone there is an eastern face, featuring narrow valleys facing northwards (the Aso, Tenna and Ambro valleys) and a western face featuring three characteristic high-altitude dips called the Castelluccio plateaux (Pian Perduto, Pian Grande and Pian Piccolo – literally the Lost, Great and Small plateaux).

The Aso, Tenna, Ambro and Nera rivers rise in the Sibylline massif. The Park also features Lake Fiastra (artificial) and, below the Vettore peak, Lake Pilate/Lago di Pilato (at 1,940 m - about 6,365 ft).
